Casting our minds back to the second half of 2021, we can recall that the semester was unfortunately plagued by a shift back to an entirely online semester for students in Victoria enduring yet another lockdown, as well as for students stuck overseas and interstate. With this, MUEES set out to make the most of the situation by continuing to host events online.
We got the dice rolling with a Games Night in Week 1 that featured a fiercely-competitive Kahoot quiz and an amusingly confusing online telephone game, Gartic Phone. Our annual Eng & It’s Got Talent may have been online again but was nonetheless a star-studded affair with talents submitted by students and judged by three of our fantastic lecturers: Andrew Ooi, Lionel Lam and Wenyan Wu.
MUEES also ran Industry Seminars each hosted by one of our 2021 Sponsors: Sustainable Development Consultants, Senversa and Yarra Valley Water. These were a huge success and of great benefit to the attendees, even helping four students get jobs with our Pacific Sponsor, Sustainable Development Consultants!
We are a society run by students for students after all, so how would we be able to call ourselves that without running our trusty study sessions to help with exam preparation? For those looking for a break from study instead, we also ran our first SWOTVAC De-Stress Event.
Finally, the year ended on a high note with the MUCSS x MUEES Cocktail Night as the last event of the semester, and a grand one at that, being held in-person at the beautiful Oxford Scholar Hotel with drinks, canapes, a photobooth and music to celebrate the end of exams.
Making the most out of a less-than-ideal situation was certainly the cornerstone of MUEES’ Semester 2 activities, and very much aligned with the overarching need for resilience in recent times. And whilst the flexibility and versatility of online events is a valuable lesson to remember, we definitely look forward to seeing all your lovely faces in-person soon and we can’t wait for you all to see what events and opportunities we have in store for you in 2022!
