Sustainable Development Consultants Industry Seminar

Proud Pacific sponsor of MUEES, Sustainable Development Consultants (SDC), presented an Industry Seminar to the MUEES community on the 9th of September.

This event was enthusiastically attended by around 30 students interested in learning more about how sustainability is implemented in the built environment.

The presenters were two of SDC’s Directors, Daniel Edwards and Adam Redmond. Both gave great insight into the kind of company SDC is and what they do on a day-to-day basis.

Since the company’s founding in 2004, the SDC team has grown into 20 staff with people from all over the world. They possess varying backgrounds from architecture, engineering to planning. For example, Daniel has been trained as an architect whilst Adam is from a mechanical engineering background.

Key highlights from the presentation included seeing the numerous projects SDC have worked on. Projects include those at primary schools, residential apartments, industrial sites and commercial buildings. They have provided advice on a vast range of topics such as acoustics, ventilation, lighting, energy use and other infrastructure topics. Furthermore, their services include management plans, assessments, modelling, certifications, ESD investigations, guidelines and specifications.

It was great to hear how they are promoting sustainable design, not only ensuring sustainability targets are met but encouraging designers and developers to exceed them.

Finally, SDC launched a MUEES exclusive internship. This will provide valuable experience for the students. We thank SDC for organising this exciting opportunity!

Overall, this event was a great success, the only thing missing was to have it in-person with some donuts that SDC were planning to supply! We hope SDC will join us for another event in the near future!
